Steel Nit Fabric
DESCRIPTION
Constructed entirely from metal wire, Steel-Nit fabric is one of the most durable insulation coverings available.
Flexibility is achieved through a unique knitted construction process that produces a circular mesh of interlocking loops.
APPLICATIONS
When used as an outer jacket material, Steel-Nit fabric provides protection for insulation from exterior abrasion, resists penetration from sharp objects, and will not break down from constant vibration.
Since the loops remain unattached to one another, movement is permitted between them without distortion to the individual wires.
FEATURES/BENEFITS
Steel-Nit fabric is available in a variety of alloys to suit specific applications.
Choose from two different wire diameters:
- Use .008-inch to achieve maximum flexibility for pads that are designed to fit particularly complex surfaces.
- Use .011-inch for pads that are required to withstand continuous handling and excessive abuse.
Steel-Nit may be constructed with a 3/16-inch crimp for applications where a slight air gap is desirable between the insulation and the hot surface.
When specified, Steel-Nit may be manufactured in accordance with the requirements of MIL-STD-769, para, 5.3.1.1.
